content is a major key to ranking
Content is king. It is a key part of Web Design. If you already have a website, we can probably boost its ability to pull leads by adding some content. If we are creating a website for you, obviously content creation is a big part of that. Following are some reasons why it is so important.
Text content is critical when it comes to search engines, pictures not so much. The reason is that search engines like Google and Bing have no way to tell what a picture is except for the title or caption. When people search, they are putting in words, not pictures. But people don't always use the same words when they are searching.
That is why it is important to have a lot of content with as many different words or phrases that they might be searching for. These words and phrases people search for are called keywords or keyword phrases. Some words will get searched frequently. It is important to use those words as much as possible through the text.
You can't overdo it though, because if it doesn't look natural and make sense, but is just a lot of keywords strung together, the search engine software is smart enough to spot that and the website will be penalized.
Wikipedia is a prime example of the importance of content. It isn't very pretty, but it is frequently at the top of searches. This is because it has such extensive content. Search engines want to please their customers (the people searching) by giving them the best, most informative websites possible.
This is really just an extension of authoritative content mentioned above. More pages allows you to go into greater details about different aspects of the business. The search engines like it because it makes your site more authoritative and you end up with even more keywords that people might search.
Especially long tail keywords. All this means is a phrase or string of keywords. As an example, lets use a website for limo rentals. If someone wanted to rent a limo from you, what are they likely to type? You would have the word limo and limousine throughout the website figuring most people would type that.
But often they put in more information. If someone searched for "white Hummer limo with gull-wing doors", not too many websites would be likely to have that phrase. But with more pages, some about the vehicles, you might have enough of those words on the page that your website would be selected as pertinent.
These are important because a website that doesn't rank highly yet for the most common keywords can still rank on the long tail keywords and get seen and get leads.
The website should also use site location words. Since the search engines pick up on keywords that say what you do, they also pick on keywords about where you do it. So if you were in Annapolis, MD you would want to mention that and some other places like Parole, Severna Park, Edgewater, etc. If you were in Baltimore, Maryland, you would mention that as well as Roland Park, Towson, Federal Hill and things like that. For Bel Air, MD you would also mention Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Forest Hill and other locations.
